Here’s the problem:

The Bible makes it clear that we have all made serious mistakes. We have all told lies, held grudges against people, coveted and lusted after things, been greedy, maybe stole something or maybe done something even worse. Therefore each and every one of us proves exactly what the Bible says about us: that we are all sinners by our fallen nature and incapable of saving ourselves. This means that we are in desperate need of a Savior.

Also, man was never created to direct his own steps but was created to be in right relationship with God and dependant on Him for direction. Man started out in right relationship with God but was deceived by the devil and fell from grace into sin. He became separated from God and was utterly lost.  .

Here’s the good news:

Thankfully, God in His infinite mercy and grace made a way for man to escape the eternal punishment required for sinning against Him. This way man could once again be in relationship with an infinitely holy God and thereby regain the eternal life that we all had lost. So, God sent His only Son Jesus Christ to pay the full penalty for our sins through His death on the cross and His bodily resurrection. In order to escape the penalty for our sins and receive eternal life, we must believe this, putting our full faith and trust in Jesus Christ for salvation (Rom 6:23, Rom 3:23, John 3:16, Rom 5:8, Eph 2:8-9).  We must truly believe in Jesus in our hearts, not just give mere mental assent. This means truly trusting in Christ for salvation and resting in God's assurance to us that we have eternal life in His Son.

Unfortunately today, there are also many false “Christs” that people believe in. The Mormons for example believe in a false Jesus who they say is the brother of Satan. However, the real Jesus of the Bible (who of course is not the brother of Satan), was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, performed many miracles and fulfilled many prophecies. The real Jesus was crucified and died. He rose on the 3rd day, appeared to His disciples, ascended into heaven, sits at the right hand of the Father and will return again. All of us will eventually be judged. Another false Jesus is the “Jesus” of the Jehovah Witnesses. They say that Jesus is not God. The real Jesus is fully God and fully man. Lastly, Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life, no man comes to the Father but by me.” John 14:6 So, while good works are good, they cannot save us. While living a good life and being a good person is very important, doing so cannot save us either. We cannot save ourselves. Only Jesus can. False religions of the world claim that man can earn eternal life by good works. Christianity says we must believe in what Jesus already did. Big difference.

If you have become a Christian, you might wonder what’s next. Read and obey the Bible with an emphasis on the New Testament which is the blueprint for Christian living. Don’t just believe what people tell you. There are a lot of unbiblical churches teaching and doing a lot of unbiblical things and taking wild advantage of naive people.
